Rick Bailey
President
Two and a half years ago Patsy and I got our first Jack Russell, Jumper. In an effort to learn more about our little dog we found the SSJRTC. When we attended our first fun day we had no idea that we were making a life altering decision. We were just going to check it out! You all know the rest of the story.

What you don’t know is what an absolutely fantastic job you have all done with your club and what it means to so many people and their dogs. I have never had the opportunity to be involved with such a great bunch of people. The friendships and camaraderie that is shared with all and the excitement and challenges for the dogs! Coupled with the outdoors and getting off the couch and away from the daily grind of our lives is almost indescribable. You have to be a part of it to understand it.

It is my desire to become a working part of this club and to serve in whatever fashion necessary to ensure it’s continued success. I would like to assist in the expansion of the youth program so that we can strengthen the foundation of our club for years to come. I will work for the club and always in the best interest of the club and I will serve to protect the heritage and the integrity of the SSJRTC and it’s members so that it can continue to serve the Jack Russell Terrier.

Melanie Heckler
Vice President
The 2011 Yuletide Trial marked my eighth year with SSJRTC and my fifth year on the board. Hard to believe so much time has passed and so many friends and memories have been collected.
I really enjoy playing with our babies at SSJRTC events and socializing with our friends. I also enjoy working on the club website and Terrier Times eNewsletter as a way to foster communication among the membership. It's very rewarding to work with a really great group of people on the board planning and arranging club activities.
I have had dogs all my life but have never enjoyed them this much!

Jason Jones
Treasurer

I have been a member of SSJRTC for two years now.I was first introduced to the club when my wife and I purchased our first Jack Russell, Lexie.Lorri and I both love working with dogs and attended a few Florida trials in 2005.Several very nice SSJRTC members took us under their wings and guided us from day one to where we are today. We have established numerous close friendships and enjoy the time with our “dog family,” because it gives us an opportunity to unwind from our normal busy lives.

I plan to continue to support this Florida club to make it the most successful club that represents the JRTCA. I feel the SSJRTC is a close knit group that displays a positive influence to our youth from all over Florida. I will work in whatever area is needed to keep this club headed in the right direction and to make Florida trials the most desired trials of all. I look forward to working with and learning from each and every member of our club.

Michelle Drain
Secretary
About 17 years ago Jim and I had the opportunity to be owned by an eight week old JRT named Terra. She was our constant companion. We were devastated when she passed away in 2006. In 2007,
So Fine, aka Sofi, came into our lives. We had watched the JRT races at the Little Everglades Steeplechase and thought that might be a fun thing to do. We contacted Anita Herman who suggested that we attend the 2007 Yuletide Trail. Raising Kane , aka Kane was joined the family in 2008. The rest is history. We have been members of the SSJRTC and the JRTCA for the past 3 years. I believe I would be an asset to the club. I have been a horse show secretary for 10 + years with vast experience with show schedules, prize lists, ribbons, prizes, awards and fund raising. I was also instrumental in bringing JRT racing to the Florida State Fair. Thank you.

Carole Baskette  Director

Hi Everyone,

I'm Carole Baskette.  My husband, Dave, and I joined the JRTCA and SSJRTC in 2007 with our new female puppy, Calico Jack.  The next year, we were blessed with the gift of our male, Magilacutty, who was two and a half at the time.

This club provides wonderful friendships and entertainment for Dave and I, our grandsons, Eric and Darell and especially, our beloved dogs.  It's time for me to take my turn on the board and work hard for our club like so many have done before me. I have enjoyed volunteering by providing refreshments and thank-you bags for our judges and also, stewarding for Go-to-Ground and Super Earth.  Dave and our grandsons are always willing to help with set-up and tear down.  It takes many hands and a few strong backs to pull off the great trials that our club is known for.

I look forward to an exciting year of friendly competition with our jacks and new memories to make with the many good friends this club has blessed us with.  Thank you.

Justin Caynor
Director

Hello. My name is Justin Caynor. I got my first Jack Russell in June of 2003 and we spent our first 2 years together with her teaching me all about how much she loved to fetch the ball, ball, ball, chasing squirrels and going to dog parks, coming to work with me daily and spending most of her days playing fetch with all our employees, customers, delivery drivers, and pretty much any buddy that would throw, kick or nudge a ball out of the warehouse door into the field behind our warehouse for her!

I had read Jack Russell for Dummies and heard of terrier racing but was clueless on where to start or who to contact. By luck, a friend of came across an article in the Tampa Tribune or St Pete Times announcing terrier racing at the annual Little Everglades Steeplechase in Dade City. So she called me up and told me all about it. With delight and excitement I called the number as soon as we hug up and reached a very nice lady by the name of Pauline Fawkes.

Beasley And I attended our first trial in 2005, when she was just a puppy and both of us were instantly hooked.

I enjoy watching my Baby Girl compete against some other tough Jacks in such Quality events and having a Blast!

I soon became a member of the JRTCA and the SSJRTC...

continue being an active member of this Great Club for many years to come.

I have been involved with Jack Russells since 1989. I have been with Gold Coast Terrier Network since then (I am currently the chairman) and with Sunshine State for the past several years.

We live in Dunnellon and currently have six JRs. My husband David has been a board member the last few years and I have attended the meetings with him and helped him on the trophy/ awards committee.

I hope to continue helping SSJRTC now and in the future
Jackie McLain
Director

I got involved with this crazy little dog about 16 years ago with my first, Cody. I had no idea what I was getting into when my sister in law gave him to me at 10 weeks old. Needless to say he was my baby and smart as a whip. Some people saw me in the drive through of the bank with Cody (going crazy over the tube from the sky that delivers dog cookies) when they told me about these “fun shows for the dog”. I went to my first fun show in West Palm Beach at the Posse grounds. I met a lot of people that day that were crazy about these little balls of fire. I put Cody in every event they would let me. (it was a lot cheaper then!) He had such a great time, as did I, that I had to have more. I got the JRT disease and had to get 3 more JRT’s. D’Keys JRT’s was born and have been playing ever since. Although Cody is no longer with me to play, I still love watching my dogs have a great time at the shows.

I currently serve the SSJRTC as the Secretary. I have been involved with the club since it’s inception. I live in Morriston, FL with my 6 JRT’s. I have been on the Board since moving to north Florida 6 years ago. I have always worked very hard at our club trails to make sure they are run smoothly and all of the great folks I have met over the years have a good time. I have been very active in trying to keep Agility in our trials as most clubs don’t offer the event anymore due to lack of participation.

I would like to step down from the Secretary position, not that I won’t work as hard for this club, but to give others the opportunity to move into a more demanding position with the board. I plan to be available whenever I am needed for this club and to help in any way I can. I wish to remain active with the club as a Director and hope you will consider voting for me for a Director position on the Sunshine State JRT Club.

Karen Muth
Director I can't believe I'm a "mom" of a veteran-- I don't feel that old! I met my Matty at five days old and I was in love. I took her home at eight weeks and I was leaving my breeders (Sharon and Mike Roberts, now in Colorado) asked if I was going to race her. I had no clue what they were talking about. Matty "ran" in her race at six months-- she ran the wrong way! Luckily she is a quick study and races with all her heart in every race. She might not be the fastest, but she enjoys herself at every event. Seven years later she is going strong.

We added to our Jack family two years ago... Alligator Jack's Jonty. She is quite fast, but has an aversion to the "hole". I call her my ADHD girl. She is so sweet, but in her own little world. Luckily she likes the lure, just ask Don (my two are the noisiest).

I enjoy all my time with the SSJRTC. Even though I've been a member for years I'm still learning and willing to learn more. I will try to help the club in any capacity I can.
Donna Tucker
Director
Hey there. My name is Donna Tucker and I am from High Springs Fl. I have been involved with and hooked on Jack Russells since obtaining my first jack "Fox Island Angus" 7 years ago.  It makes me so proud to have his daughter Piper (last year's national under racing champion).

I have learned so much about genetics, conformation, and racing and look forward to learning so much more in the years to come along with my friends I have made through the SSJRTC. Together we can make this club grow even bigger and better every year.

Jim Williams
Director
My name is Jim Williams. Carolyn and I got our first Jack Russell (Florida Cracker) three years ago and after registering him with JRTCA we recieved our first True Grit magazine. We read there was a trial near our home (Geneva) in Chuluota and decided to go as spectators, but were encouraged to participate. We had such a great time, especially Cracker and met so many wonderful people who were helpful and friendly in welcoming us into the SSJRTC. To date we have not missed a SSJRTC trial and have attended several out of state events. I have always tried to do my part as a member by arriving early and staying late to assist with set up and take down of events. I believe any club is only as good as it's rules and the memberships willingness to follow them and assist in any way they can. Consistency is fairness that will breed and maintain a strong and happy club membership.

Rashar Siren is our new JRT puppy and we are looking forward to doing all the puppy events that we missed with Cracker.

We will be looking forward to participating and working with all of you at the next trial.
Remember it's supposed to be all about the dogs.
Donna Douglas
 Director
My name is Donna Douglas, I live in Lakeland, Florida and I am the proud mom of two Jack Russell Terriers, named Donna's Shining Star and Samantha Jo. I have only been a Jack mom for four years, at this point. I went on vacation to visit my relatives in Virginia in September 2006 and came home with a 9 month old Jack Russell Terrier named Star. This began my indoctrination into Jack Russell Terriers. I knew that she needed obedience training because she was always running away from her former owner with her "sister" (a black Lab), whenever she could. My husband had always wanted a Jack Russell and since he is retired he had the responsiblity of potty training her. I have had dogs most of my life and they had ranged from fox terriers, poodles, a sheltie mix, a collie mix, pit bull and pit bull mixes. Most of my dogs had been bigger, but we decided that smaller dogs would fit in the travel trailer better so the Jack's size fit right in.

In November 2007, I was surfing the web and found the Sunshine State Jack Russell Terrier site. I found out that there was a trial coming up in a week and we decided to delay leaving for vacation a day and attend Williston. We left out and got there as the races were ending. I was just so excited about seeing so many Jack Russells in one place. We ran Star in the Thunder Tunnel and she did pretty good. The lady running it told us we should stay around until the ribbons were given out and so we did. Star ending up getting a fifth place ribbon in the thunder tunnel and I was hooked. The only things we participated in that day were Thunder Tunnel, Barn Hunt and lure course. Star was having so much fun that I was tempted to delay our vacation another day and go back again. What made it so special besides Star having fun, was the people. Everyone was so friendly and helpful to a "newby" that we felt so welcome and I knew we'd be back again. The next trial we attended was Yuletide. There I spoke with Anita Herman and she put me in touch with Pat Richardson to talk about the puppies
she had. We ended up getting our second Jack as a family Christmas present. You can't have just one Jack!! Little did I know at the the time, but Pat Richardson was the lady that told us to stay for the ribbons that first time at a trial.

I look forward to helping the club grow and continue to make "newbys" and existing members feel like family, as that is the feeling I have always gotten when participating in any SSJRTC event. Any club is only as good as it's members make it. I want to continue keeping this club as one of the best run clubs and to continue having one of the best run trials in the JRTCA.
